What happens during a treatment?
Your first treatment will include a detailed consultation regarding every aspect of your health. This will take approximately 1 and a half to 2 hours and will also include your first treatment. Subsequent treatments will be an hour or less. Acupuncture points are located all over the body, with the majority of them found on the lower arms and legs, though points on other body parts – such as the back – may be chosen. Please wear suitable loose clothing that can easily be rolled up – or a gown may be provided – whichever is more comfortable for you.
Very fine needles (slightly thicker than a human hair) are inserted just beneath the skin. Sometimes these needles are left in for 10 to 20 minutes and sometimes they are withdrawn almost immediately, depending on the chosen treatment. Realistic diet and lifestyle advice is also a part of the treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on the individual, but as a rule of thumb, most people have between 4 and 6 treatments on a weekly basis, then possibly more treatment(s) monthly or when required thereafter. Acupuncture is an enjoyable treatment and once tried, patients tend to return for top ups to keep themselves feeling well whenever they like.
Treatments - What else do I need to know?
Please note that a first appointment does take an hour and a half or so, as a detailed health history is required before treatment can commence. You will not be charged for the consultation, only for the treatment you receive at that time. Subsequent treatments will be 30 minutes to an hour. I will also need details of any medication you take, either prescription or over the counter remedies, and your Doctor’s name and address.
You are advised to have taken a light meal at least an hour or so before treatment, and no alcohol on the day of treatment please. This will help you to feel comfortable and at ease.
A part of your treatment will be realistic diet and lifestyle advice as small changes in these areas can have a big and very positive impact on your health.
Please be on time so that the full planned treatment can be carried out. If you need to cancel an appointment a minimum of 24 hours notice is required, or you will be charged half the expected fee.
